Introducing the New Coffee Technicians Guild Executive Council!

The nominating committee of the Coffee Technicians Guild put forth twelve candidates for the 2017 Executive Council elections, and we are pleased to confirm that the slate was approved by the CTG membership.

Bryan Duggan, Counter Culture Coffee (USA)

Bryan is a North Carolina State graduate who majored in Supply Chain Management and fell in love with coffee during his studies in Raleigh. He started working as a barista in 2008 and has worn many hats in the industry. He was fortunate enough to land a job with Counter Culture Coffee in 2009 and has been with them ever since. His specialty is coffee equipment and tech services, but his passion is coffee!

Damian Marshall, Bewleys (Ireland)

Damian has been working at Bewleys Ireland since 2004 as the Technical & Innovations Manager. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a degree Innovation and Technology Management. His role is quite diverse and involves the technical training of service engineers, management of the in-house service team, collaborative projects with suppliers and the research of new coffee machines for the group. He is the technical adviser for the IFSA (Irish Foodservice Suppliers Alliance) and a committee member of EFCEM (European Federation of Catering Equipment Manufacturers), as well as the Events Manager for SCA Irish Chapter for the last 10 years. He loves to pass on knowledge, especially technical knowledge, to others.

Gene Lemos, Nuova Ricambi (USA)

Gene started roasting coffee in 1978. He purchased Nuova Ricambi USA in 1998 and started Vanelis, Inc. (a micro roaster) in 2002. Gene has sold and repaired espresso machines since 1979 and is actively involved with both businesses today.

Hylan Joseph, Espresso Partners (USA)

Hylan has over 30 years of experience in specialty coffee, technical service, customer service, and management. He has many years in technical services working with both large corporations and small businesses where he assessed and resolved their equipment and service concerns. He has trained staff to work with equipment that requires knowledge of water pressure, electronics and electrical theory. To do this work, technicians must have a basic knowledge of mechanics, water pressure and timing units at high temperatures, which is why he believes a sound educational program is critical to building a strong community of techs and manufacturers.

Jason Jones, CMA Astoria (UK)

Jason has worked in the UK service industry for 18 years, and is electrical and gas qualified. As an installation engineer trained by McDonald's on all commercial catering equipment, he has worked in coffee for 15 years at CMA and 3 years at Costa Coffee as a service manager for a UK national service company. He believe that quality and passion are the key to success in specialty coffee.

Lorenzo Roncali, Gruppo Cimbali (Italy)

Lorenzo is the Technical Service Training Manager for Gruppo Cimbali Products: Coffee Machines (Traditional and Fully-automatic), Grinders, Glass/Dishwashers. From 2012-2017, he served as the Technical Service Engineer (with 2 years in Italy and 3 years in European Markets). From 2011-2012, he worked at AfterSales support.

Marco Serri, Nuova Simonelli spa (Italy)

Marco has been involved in the coffee industry for 2 years. After graduating as Electronic Engineer at the University of Ancona, he started his career in the coffee industry in 2016 as technical engineer in the customer care department of Nuova Simonelli. His career has brought him to many countries, creating technical trainings and promoting the new technologies in the coffee world. Marco is involved in writing service manuals and in the creation of useful material for the technicians. He is contributing in the development of Nuova Simonelli education center being part of their Project Development team. He is always at the disposal for the technicians to help them out with their daily tasks when needed with the best empathic approach.

Micah Teeters, Franke Coffee Systems North America 

Micah is the National Service Manger for Franke Coffee Systems N.A., managing over 150 service companies. He has been a coffee tech for 5 years and a boiler/electrical tech for 30 years. He is a retired firefighter with Admin/Financial experience as well.

Michael Anderegg, Cup & Cino (Switzerland)

Michael has about 20 years of experience in the coffee business as a technician at Schaere coffee machines, a sales and technical partner for La Spaziale, Dalla Corte, and ThermoPlan, as well as sales and technician as a partner for La Marzocco in Germany. For 6 years, he has worked at Eversys Espressomaschinen. He is an Authorized SCA Trainer for Barista and Brewing programs.

Rebecca McNelly, Heartland Tech (USA)

With over ten years of experience in this field, and as an owner of a small coffee equipment repair company, Rebecca understands the struggles of building a company in a field starved for qualified professionals and lacking in resources. She is committed to listening to the needs of the Coffee Technician Guild members and making sure those needs are represented in the discussions of the committee. Rebecca believes that the training curriculum should be representative of the true needs of a technician. She understands that taking a technician out of the field for any reason is a risk, and costly in many ways, to repair companies and is committed to building value in the official events held by the CTG to ensure these trips will provide long term benefits by utilizing industry leaders and members to provide educational and learning opportunities.

Richard Muhl, Five Senses Coffee Roasters (Australia)

Richard has been a service technician since 1984 when at 17 years of age, he commenced his apprenticeship in the Australian Navy as a Weapons Electronics Specialist. He served for 11 years, spending the last 3 years as a Metrology technician seconded to the Air Force repairing and calibrating electronic test equipment. After the Navy, he spent 15 years as the Service Manager for Kodak Australasia Service and Support where he led a team of Field Engineers working with cutting edge advanced digital imaging and radiology products. After the Kodak closed down in Australia, he began a new career in the coffee industry as the founding technician soon after as the Service Manger at Five Senses Coffee. He is a life long, hands-on service technician with a passion for developing teams and individuals, increasing the level of professionalism, competence and most importantly, safety.

Shad Baiz, La Marzocco (USA)

Shad Baiz is a second generation espresso machine technician. In his youth, he worked in Seattle for his father at Visions Espresso Services and Espresso Northwest, and for Kent Bakke and John Blackwell at ESI. While completing college, Shad worked for Karl Clauda at Espresso Express, where he serviced the Northern California market. In 2000, Shad founded Solutions Espresso Services in San Diego, servicing San Diego and Orange Counties. Shad works with La Marzocco as Western Regional Support Specialist. He supports the after sales department, but is based out of San Diego, so can support the southern California region, leading training sessions and other customer engagement.
