It was great seeing how far across the world our membership is reaching. At CTG Summit Houston, we had members attending from Nepal, Puerto Rico, and Ireland.

CTG Summit Houston was an amazing experience. Hosted by Katz Coffee, we had two days of hands-on training, lectures, and great coffee and food. Nearly 75 people attended and made it a great event.

We are very grateful to Avi Katz and his team for hosting and setting up their roastery for us and to the SCA staff and volunteers for their efforts in organizing and executing the CTechP courses, workshops, and lectures.

There were a few specific highlights for me. Lorenzo Roncali’s History of Espresso Machines class and CJ Walton’s water lecture were both very inspiring, and I learned a lot.

There’s a lot of exciting things coming up. October and November have been busy months for us in the CTG.

To date we have accomplished:

  • Four certification classes were beta-tested in Houston

  • We had the first two of thee Barista Basics community-led events at The Crown Oakland

  • We elected 4 brand new people for the Leadership Council: Cat Foley, David Miller, Marzia Viotti, and Sharla Holliday.

  • We had our CTG Leadership Council meeting in Houston with the new leaders

  • We had a guild leadership event at the Santa Ana SCA office. It was a great brainstorming meeting for the year ahead.

  • We made the decision to open our volunteer ranks to non-guild members.

In the December newsletter, the content team will go over more details with everything that has happened and what’s coming.

We hope you have a great Thanksgiving.
