AST Applications Open March 13 for New Coffee Technicians Program

Update 3/16/20: Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for this webinar! You may find the recording below.

A first of its kind, the Coffee Technicians Program (CTechP) is an internationally recognized and standardized education program for people seeking to become coffee technicians as well as those already in the field who want to grow their careers.

The creation of the CTechP program has been an initiative championed by the Coffee Technicians Guild since the formation of the guild.

Becoming a Coffee Technicians Program Authorized SCA Trainer

We are excited to launch the official application process for qualified professionals interested in becoming an Authorized SCA Trainer (AST) for the Coffee Technicians Program. You can learn more about this process in a webinar on March 12.

Throughout 2020, there will be three application rounds to identify the inaugural groups of ASTs in the CTechP program. These trainers, who must meet a series of requirements related to time in service, field experience, teaching experience and more, will then be invited to complete training with the SCA and be authorized to deliver CTechP courses.

Information for Current ASTs

There are special instructions for current ASTs who would like to become CTechP trainers. In order to teach the core modules of Hydraulics, Electrical and Water & Preventive Maintenance, current ASTs must complete the same application and be selected to join the program. They do not need to attend another AST course and will be able to add this three-module bundle for $200/€190 if selected in 2020. When the Coffee Preparation module is released, those current ASTs licensed in both Brewing and Barista Skills will be able to request that this module be added to their license at no extra charge.

CTechP Authorized SCA Trainers (ASTs)

Similar to the Coffee Skills Program, the CTechP will be delivered by authorized trainers around the world who build courses according to a set curriculum of specific knowledge and skill objectives. ASTs manager their own calendars and course prices. Successful learners are charged an administrative fee.

ASTs must meet or exceed certain requirements before being invited to partner with the SCA in delivering the CTechP. These requirements vary based on the module and typically include a documented history of professional time in the field, third-party credentials, academic degrees, as well as education and training experience.
